Des Moines’ longest running all-local music festival, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), returns for the fifth straight year on Saturday, March 27 at All Play. This years’ lineup is packed with performances from some of the top talent in Iowa. GDP will feature 14 bands spanning the indie, hip-hop, metal, acoustic, electronic, and pop genres.

What began as a conversation in a coffee shop has become a thriving grassroots movement of music fans, musicians and business owners who believe in the power of music. Since 2004, the Greater Des Moines Music Coalition (DMMC) has put the promise of music to work for Des Moines. And it couldn’t have happened without the generous financial and volunteer support from our community.
This month the Concert Corps highlight show is the Des Moines Social Club's The Bash with music by Poison Control Center, Christopher The Conquered, Colourmusic and Leslie and the Lys on December 31, 2009 at 8pm.
The former Ingersoll Dinner Theater at 3711 Ingersoll Ave. is being renovated into a multi-use facility that will be primarily a Caribbean-themed restaurant and dance lounge. Copa Cavana will specialize in Cuban foods and will have a lounge with Latin American dancing such as salsa, tango and merengue with live and DJ music. Live shows, theater groups and free dance lessons will also be on the venue.
Time to think about your plans for 4th of July weekend. Of course, you'll be in Western Gateway Park at 80/35, Saturday and Sunday, July 3 & 4. But did you know that the fest features two full days of music this year? And by full we mean noon to night. Seriously. If we could bend time and squeeze 49 hours of music into the two-day fest, we would.
VEISHEA is again seeking the best local and regional talent to compete in the 2010 VEISHEA Battle of the Bands.
The House of Bricks annual fundraiser for the Animal Rescue League of Iowa is set for Saturday, February 13 with Caste in Stone, Buster and the Punks, The League and more TBA. Stay tuned to
