5th Annual Gross Domestic Product Lineup Announced

Des Moines’ longest running all-local music festival, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), returns for the fifth straight year on Saturday, March 27 at All Play. This years’ lineup is packed with performances from some of the top talent in Iowa. GDP will feature 14 bands spanning the indie, hip-hop, metal, acoustic, electronic, and pop genres.

Backstage Ball Encourages Support to Grow Music Scene - Jan. 27 at People's

What began as a conversation in a coffee shop has become a thriving grassroots movement of music fans, musicians and business owners who believe in the power of music. Since 2004, the Greater Des Moines Music Coalition (DMMC) has put the promise of music to work for Des Moines. And it couldn’t have happened without the generous financial and volunteer support from our community.

Former Ingersoll Dinner Theater to host Latin American dancing lessons, live and DJ music

The former Ingersoll Dinner Theater at 3711 Ingersoll Ave. is being renovated into a multi-use facility that will be primarily a Caribbean-themed restaurant and dance lounge. Copa Cavana will specialize in Cuban foods and will have a lounge with Latin American dancing such as salsa, tango and merengue with live and DJ music. Live shows, theater groups and free dance lessons will also be on the venue.

80/35 Music Festival - July 3 and 4, 2010

Time to think about your plans for 4th of July weekend. Of course, you'll be in Western Gateway Park at 80/35, Saturday and Sunday, July 3 & 4. But did you know that the fest features two full days of music this year? And by full we mean noon to night. Seriously. If we could bend time and squeeze 49 hours of music into the two-day fest, we would.

Thanks to Phil for the awesome pics as usual.

How did the venue work out? Good? Bad? Half the bands on the lineup were new to me, so I wanted to go this year but my brother in law came home early from Iraq and crashed at our house.
