It may be relatively unusual for a band to go with a “Live at” album as their debut effort, but this was clearly a wise decision for The Workshy. They thrive as the kind of jamband that should first be appreciated live. It’s a familiar format: Live at Fillmore East, the Whiskey, Max’s Kansas City…But who needs those overblown, clichéd venues? In Des Moines we have the Vaudeville Mews, and The Workshy uses that to their advantage.

 Omega Dog has only been together for eight months, but the band has quickly played multiple shows around Des Moines. Their dedication to practice and songwriting has earned them shows at People’s Court, the Vaudeville Mews, El Bait Shoppe, the Longest Yard, A.K. O’Connors and the Briar Patch Festival.

"Underpass Logic" is the first release from BumRap, a collective of "Emcees, producers, bboys, bgirls, writers, & Dj's in the Des Moines Area, all from associated crews dedicated to building positivity in the universe and developing and preserving a progressive environment for the hip hop culture in our city, regardless of any other differences."

Des Moines’ longest running all-local music festival, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), returns for the fifth straight year on Saturday, March 27 at All Play. This years’ lineup is packed with performances from some of the top talent in Iowa. GDP will feature 14 bands spanning the indie, hip-hop, metal, acoustic, electronic, and pop genres.
Time to think about your plans for 4th of July weekend. Of course, you'll be in Western Gateway Park at 80/35, Saturday and Sunday, July 3 & 4. But did you know that the fest features two full days of music this year? And by full we mean noon to night. Seriously. If we could bend time and squeeze 49 hours of music into the two-day fest, we would.
The Greater Des Moines Music Coalition announces the 5th annual Gross Domestic Product is set for Saturday, March 27, 2010 at All Play in downtown Des Moines. Band submissions are being accepted at 
VEISHEA is again seeking the best local and regional talent to compete in the 2010 VEISHEA Battle of the Bands.
What began as a conversation in a coffee shop has become a thriving grassroots movement of music fans, musicians and business owners who believe in the power of music. Since 2004, the Greater Des Moines Music Coalition (DMMC) has put the promise of music to work for Des Moines. And it couldn’t have happened without the generous financial and volunteer support from our community.
